HHmmmm Very interesting. The Peyton coat of arms can be seen on my brothers site http://www.ottoscars.com and it was traced back to England wher ethe Peyton Church is and other stuff. I had a guy go there and shoot pictures. My brother Mauri, Ted and Otto all stand far above 6 feet tall. I'd like to gather more information on Peytons but right now I am just trying to get materials made with the original coat of arms and to have everything documents by legal records to complete the family line. One thing for Sure, Peyton's are fighters and more importantly....Winners! The spelling has no changed as far as I know of so I am kinda lost on the PAyton version? If anyone, as I will do someday myself, has a complete family line then by God share it, make a site with all of what you have so others can see and connect the dots.
God Bless All Peytons

Hello, my name is William Payton, I've recently started traceing my family bloodline and I keep seeing your name "ROSEMARY PAYTON" surface on places I have searched... I live in Kentucky in the U.S.A. and know very little about our past years, except what my Great aunt had told me years ago before her passing... She had said our name was originally spelled "Paiton" and she did know that the family had traveled from England to Virginia and then on to Kentucky... I wish to find the correct info... Thank you for your time, and I wish you well...

God Bless,
William Payton

Roxy - I posted all the names of Virginians who are known to be descended from Magna Carta barons here: http://genealogy.blogsome.com/2007/07/28/magna-carta-ancestry/ . Robert PEYTON of Gloucester County is among them, but no PEYTONs from northern Virginia.

I will be most interested to know of your efforts to join the Jamestown Society on Valentine PEYTON. I do see that he is a "qualifying ancestor." Good Luck.

Thank you for you information Rosemary. The Peytons who settled in northern Virginia, my ancestors, were from London. Yes, it is true that they are supposed to trace their ancestry to Walter de Malet, whose father, William de Malet of Normandy, was a half-brother of William the Conquerer.

I don't wish to sound superior (LOL) but as I said in my comments, these records go back to the Domesday Book of 1087, and earlier than that to the Batle of Hastings, 1066, which suggests that the original (Peytons) were Norman warriors who we rewarded with lands and titles from William the Conqueror. From there, of course, over the period of HUNDREDS of years, they have spread their tentacles all over the world. They were very influential in Ireland until the Great Famine, when many of them immigrated to Englad and America. I understand, however, that many of them adventured to the New World long before that. Suffice it to say, that their origins were Norman or Saxon. Awarded lands and properties for their services to William the Conqueror and are listed in the Magna Carta, The Domesday Book and Burkes Peerage. VVEEEERRRRY INNNNTTERESTING.
Hope you enjoy the History I have discovered. I am confident that the American (Peyton. Payton) are all of the same origen.

Do you realise that your ancestors are mentioned in the Domeday book 1087. They were rewarded by William the Conqueror for their contribution in the Battle of Hastings and were knighted and given lands and properties for their services. They have a coat of arms and are listed in Burkes Peerage. One of them, Sir Robert Peyton became the Lord Cheif Justice of Ireland and many generations followed him in Ireland. During the great famine, many of the Peyton, Paytons' immigrated to England (Liverpool) from which my Husband is descended. Many others of them immigrated to America. I have traced many of the original Peytons' the name has been spelt in many variations over the centuries, but it's origination was taken from the properties that William the Conqueror awarded to them for their services furing the Battle of Hastings/1066. I have traced the ancient origins of the family and the name up to the present day, in England, Ireland and Liverpool. Am now beginning to look to the "New World" for the many tentacles of the family. Please approach me if the information forementioned interests you, or strikes any bells. Thanks and God Bless. Rosemary Payton
